For several years, Tom served as a public announcer at basketball games for Wilmington Area School District. The Good Samaritan Fund provided wheelchair-accessible transportation, allowing Tom to attend a girls' varsity basketball game. Tom's wife shared her thoughts on his experience:
“Tom was ecstatic. He loves the girls and the team so much that he was almost crying. It meant so much to him. He was so happy and so grateful. Tom used to announce at the games and became friends with a lot of the girls at the school. He has known some of these girls since they started playing T-ball. The kids would help him get into the gym, and Tom would announce from his scooter. Tom stopped going to the games about five years ago, so this meant so much to him.”
Amy’s healthcare provider advised her to lose weight to improve certain weight-related health conditions and recommended a weight loss injection. However, Amy was unable to afford the cost of the injections. Thanks to The Good Samaritan Fund, she was able to receive the treatment she needed. This is what Amy had to say:
“You don’t realize how thankful I am that my prayers have been answered. I’ve been trying to eat healthy but haven’t had much luck with losing weight. My blood pressure was so high that I was having shortness of breath, and I was in danger of having a heart attack or stroke. The doctor told me that I had to lose weight, or I was going to die. With the help of Dr. Gardner’s office, I’ve been able to get my blood pressure under control, but my insurance denied the weight loss injection that the doctor recommended. Being a one-income household, I could only afford a certain amount for the injections. This generous fund provided me with the other half of the money needed to cover the injections. I currently have lost over 80 pounds! Between the healthy diet and the injections, I continue to lose weight every week. This fund has blessed me to be healthy again and to work for God’s goodness. I think of 1 Corinthians 1:4: I always thank my God for you because of his grace given in Christ Jesus.
I prayed every day asking God to guide me in this weight loss journey and to be able to help others along the way; God has answered my prayers.”
Richard was experiencing knee pain, and his healthcare provider recommended physical therapy as part of his treatment plan. The Good Samaritan Fund covered the cost of his physical therapy sessions. This is what Richard had to say:
“I went to the doctor because of knee pain. Initially, I thought it was a pulled muscle or gout. I was wearing shorts, and she noticed a circle on my knee. It was a tick bite. I needed physical therapy but couldn’t afford it. I was told that the office could help pay for the physical therapy. I completed the exercises, and over the course of a week, I was cured of knee pain. All I can say is thank you.”
